Within the framework of the initiated cooperation BELPOL provides assistance to the team ByProsvet in the processing of the electronic database on citizens repressed by the communist regime during the existence of the USSR.
The database contains more than 1 million records on repressions in the period of 1920-1990s. Among them, about 740 thousand people are residents of Belarus, Poland - about 6.5 thousand people, Lithuania - 3.5 thousand. The database also contains information about residents of Ukraine and more than a dozen other countries.
As a result of the initial base analysis, it has already been established over 20,000 repressed for political reasons, people officially sentenced to capital punishment (their real number is much higher). In addition, there is information on more than 50 thousand rehabilitated persons.
Our experts will provide the ByProsvet team with the necessary consulting and legal assistance, as well as assistance in the analysis and systematization of the above information for its subsequent publication in free access.
The results of this work will have serious historical significance and will add to the understanding of the picture of political repression in Soviet times.
